One would
never guess that Chateau Camou produced its first vintage just six years
ago. The vineyard is turning out very good versions of chardonnay, sauvignon
blanc, and cabernet, but I would wager its El Gran Vino series will become
better known. The Tinto version is a red made in the Bordeaux style by
blending cabernet, cabernet franc, and merlot grapes to achieve a libation
hinting of dark cherries and cassis. |

The 1997 vintage was young and tannic when release but exhibits huge promise with a little more bottle age.The El Gran Vino Dulce is a phenomenal dessert wine that blends honey, litchi, peach, butterscotch, and pineapple flavors in a perfect harmony that lingers long and deliciously in the mouth. A 500-milliliter bottle should retail for about $25, a great bargain. |
